  ‘The Roaring Game’; Stonehouse Curling Club Curling has always been a popular recreational past time in the community for around 200 years. This booklet provides a historical account of curling in Stonehouse and investigates the sport locally and nationally in understanding its popularity and development. Particularly popular within the farming community, curling played an important part in the social calendar of the village in the winter months. This publication also provides a short history on the old sports of ‘kyles’ (nine-pins) and quoits which was popular within the mining community. Both these sports contributed to the wider picture of recreational pursuits of the village in days long gone.
